More Of That can run a huge race in JNWine Champion Chase at Down Royal

Saturday 4th November, 2017 - 2:30pm Down Royal - JNWine.com Champion Chase

Grade One action takes centre stage at Down Royal on Saturday afternoon, and the JNWine.com Champion Chase has attracted a stellar field for the 2017 renewal, and it's the Jessica Harrington-trained Our Duke who has been installed as the red-hot favourite for the coveted prize, as he looks to cement his place as a genuine Cheltenham Gold Cup contender this season.

  • Our Duke won the Irish Grand National by 14 lengths last season
  • Road To Respect has won already this season
  • More Of That is an eye-catching British raider

Our Duke The One To Beat

After some notable novice chase wins last season, Our Duke ended the campaign with a runaway 14-length success in the Irish Grand National, and if he can continue on an upward curve this season could prove to be another high-class Irish-trained horse, who along with Sizing John can try and land Gold Cup glory at the Cheltenham Festival in March.

Now, Harrington's raider will make his hotly-anticipated return to the track and is a best-priced 4/5 shot with William Hill to kick off his season with a win, and with him oozing potential it would be no surprise to see him challenger for all the elite Grade 1 races this season between two-and-half-miles and 3m 2f this season, and he has to be the one to beat.

However, he will come up against some race-fit rivals in this contest, along with a notable British-trained runner, so at odds-on, if he is going to prove vulnerable at the highest level, then it could be his first run of the campaign, and from a betting perspective he could be worth taking on here.

Main Dangers

Noel Meade's Road To Respect is one of those rivals to Our Duke heading to Down Royal on the back of a run, and last season's Cheltenham Festival winner was a battling winner of a cracking Punchestown contest last month, and he is one that could make waves in Graded company this term, but at 7/2 with Paddy Power looks to have a lot less scope than some of his rivals.

Sub Lieutenant (12/1) and Outlander (25/1) were a brace of runners in that aforementioned race at Punchestown, and both were beaten comfortably by Road To Respect, so it's hard to see that pair turning that form around, and while could challenge for the minor honours are another duo that make little appeal.

Jonjo O'Neill's More Of That is an interesting runner, as he has often failed to produce the goods over fences, but the Jackdaws Castle inmate has bypassed the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby in favour of this test, and if he can recepture the sort of form that saw him win the World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, then he is a cracking each-way bet at 10/1 with Paddy Power for this race.
