The weights for all the big Cheltenham Festival handicaps were announced on Wednesday lunchtime which will spark some fervent betting activity in the ante-post markets. There'll also be some nervy trainers who will be sweating on horses dropping out to guarantee their place in the respective races. One of these is the market leader of the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle Qaspal, who needs 97 horses to drop out of the race to stand a chance of running. 8/1 favourite with Ladbrokes to win the race since the entries were announced last month, it now looks very unlikely that Phillip Hobbs trained six-year-old will run.

The first big handicap chase of the meeting is on day one of the festival, with The Tother One handed a top weight of 11st 12lbs for the race. The Paul Nicholls trained nine-year-old is a 14/1 chance for the race with Ladbrokes, whilst favourite Bensalem is a solid 6/1 with the firm after being handed 10st 11lbs. The big market mover in the race is The Package, who is now as short as 7/1 for the race, as the course winner here in December was handed a weight of 10st 9lbs.
The big handicap hurdle of the meeting is the Coral Cup raced on Wednesday 17th March and is always an exciting betting heat. The Paul Nicholls trained Beshabar has been backed into 10/1 favourtism for the race with Ladbrokes and will carry 11st 6lbs. Top weight is shared by Irsih raider Jumbo Rio amd the David Pipe trained Mr Thriller, who will have to lug 11st 12lbs around the two and a half miles trip.
The last race of the Cheltenham Festival meeting is the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase Challenge Cup and last year's third place finisher French Opera has been handed top weight of 11st 12lbs for the 2010 renewal. The Nicky Henderson trained seven-year-old is an 8/1 favourite with Ladbrokes despite the weight.
