Champion trainer Paul Nicholls appears to hold the keys to the Blue Square Chase at Doncaster on Saturday now that Alan King has decided to withdraw OH Crick from the race. The two favourites for the race are the Nicholls pair of Free World at 7/1 with Ladbrokes and 2009 winner, Imsingingtheblues at 10/1, but despite the absence of Oh Crick, the race still has a very open look about it with any number in with a realistic chance.
Free World is a very consistent sort but one who finds it hard to win races, he always seems to make the frame but has not visited a winners enclosure since November 2008 when he won a modest Beginners Chase. He has been second on each of his last three outings, including last time when falling short by a1½ lengths when losing out to the very useful French Opera in the Jenny Mould Memorial Chase at Cheltenham. He certainly has a realistic chance and it is important to note that Ruby Walsh has elected to ride him in preference to Imsingingtheblues.

Winner in 2009 when the race was called the William Hill.Com Handicap Chase, Imsingingtheblues has not won since but has put in some useful looking performances. Although well beaten, his third place behind Petit Robin last time out in the Grade 2 Desert Orchid Chase was a very creditable performance; he should therefore have the beating of most in this race.
Form and Betting for Blue Square Chase
Oiseau De Nuit, trained by Colin Tizzard was a very impressive winner of the Toteswinger Handicap Chase last time out at Ffos Las, a fortnight ago. This race however, might be a little too high grade for him, but such is his consistency and jumping ability it would be no surprise to see him in the frame with a good return for each way backers. Oiseau De Nuit is a 10/1 shot also with Ladbrokes.
Our tip for the race however has to be the Ferdy Murphy trained, Kalahari King, who is making his seasonal reappearance. Unlucky loser to Forpadydeplasterer in the Grade One Arkle Challenge Trophy at the 2009 Cheltenham Festival, this horse has real class and if in any sort of form should be more than good enough to win this. He has not been outside of the first two in any of his last eight races, which includes a very creditable second to Twist Magic in the Celebration Chase in April last year; at 12/1 he should not be missed.
