The National Hunt season runs from October through to April, with most of the top races geared twoards the big festivals such as Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown.

The Flat Season starts in March and goes until October, when the National Hunt season gets into full swing and the All weather goes on throughout the year. In each field of racing there are the main festivals and big race days to cherish and have a small bet on.
The Flat season has five major classics which include - the 1,000 Guineas, 2,000 Guineas, Epsom Derby, Oaks and St Leger along with some great festivals at Royal Ascot, York, Goodwood, Chester and Newmarket.
The Prix de l'Arc de Tripmphe signals the end of the top class flat racing for the season for many and the 2011 renewal was won by German trained outsider Danedream in fine style.

There is some top quality racing from Churchill Downs during October in the 2012 Breeders Cup. There were plenty of European raiders on display on two of the biggest days of the flat racing calendar, including in the Breeders Cup Classic and Breeders Cup Mile.
The Melbourne Cup is Australia's big day, hosted at Flemington Racecourse on the first Tuesday of November, the handicap raced over two miles is a huge betting event. The 2011 renewal was won by French trained horse Dunaden.
The Epsom Derby is the fourth of flat racing's classics to be raced each year, usually on the first weekend in June. The 2011 winner was the Alexandre Fabre trained Pour Moi, who was the first French winner since 1976 .
Royal Ascot takes place in June and with five days of top class racing, it is a British summer of sport institution for both horse racing and fashion. Winners from Royal Ascot in 2011 included such names as Canford Cliffs, Frankel, Frederick Engels, Fame And Glory, and Await The Dawn.
Much like Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood is another five day summer festival, this time taking place in early August. Highlights during the week include the Lennox Stakes, Sussex Stakes, Goodwood Cup, Nassau Stakes, Stewards Cup and many more.
The Cheltenham Festival takes place each year during March, with four days of quality national hunt racing. Each day there is at least one championship race, with the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase, World Hurdle and Gold Cup the highlights.

The Grand National is the biggest race of the year, where forty horses go to post to race around the four miles Aintree track. In 2011, Ballabriggs won it for trainer Donald McCain as the 10-year-old produced an impressive run as a 14/1 ante-post punt.
