There are two conferences in the NHL, the Eastern and the Western and each conference has three divisions. Each division has five teams and during a regular season each team will play 82 games, equally split between 41 games at home and away. The NHL season runs from October through to early April, before the Stanley Cup play-offs take place where the top two teams fight it out in a best of seven series.
