Henlow Derby Odds: Taylors Sky hot favourite in the betting

Charlie Lister's Taylors Sky will start as a hot favourite for Thursday's Henlow Derby, with Ladbrokes pricing him 4/9 odds on. The 2-year-old has been in flying form of late and the other five contenders in this cracking contest face a real challenge to keep pace with Taylors Sky, who broke the Henlow track record recently.

The form of Lister's ante-post favourite has been nothing short of sensational as he made all to win the Ladbrokes Gold Cup at Monmore and has gone on to take the Charlie Lick's Greyhound Derby last month.

He has continued his form at Henlow as he equalled the track record of 27.21 seconds when blowing his rivals away in the opening heat of the Derby two weeks ago. He then smashed that record last Thursday as he stormed to victory in the second semi-final in a time of 27.08 seconds, leaving Blonde Snapper in his wake.

Blonde Snapper (9/2) will attempt to turn the tables this week and Mark Wallis's entry has three and a half lengths to find. The 3-year-old has been unfortunate lately but did provide Taylors Sky with a strong challenge right up to the third bend last week and should be all the better for the run.

The race itself contains an interesting side story as Wallis and Chris Allsopp are both bidding to win the Trainers' Championship this season. Just a few points separate the two and Thursday night could play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the Championship.

Allsopp enters Brittons Empire and the 3-year-old arrives in fine form after winning three of the last four outings. The 8/1 shot edged out Blonde Snapper by a neck in a heat two weeks ago and tied up the first semi-final by the opening bend last week when beating Freedom Chief by a length.

Dean Childs' Freedom Chief is available at odds of 10/1 with Ladbrokes.com this week as the 2-year-old bids to improve on a decent record at Henlow. Freedom Chief was fourth in the Derby Trial Stakes and just missed out on the Henlow Puppy Derby finals last year, although this looks a big ask.

Elsewhere, Stuart Buckland's Ballymac Denis made all to win a scrappy Derby heat two weeks ago and tied up the third semi-final in a time of 27.36 seconds last Thursday. It was an impressive time and he could be worth an each-way look from odds of 8/1, with Ladbrokes going quarter the odds on the first two places this week.

Blackrose Boss lost by three lengths to Ballymac Denis last week and the youngest entry in the field has plenty to find here, with Eric Cantillon's 33/1 chance likely to be all the better for the experience.

2011 Henlow Derby Odds

4/9 Taylors Sky
9/2 Blonde Snapper
8/1 Brittons Empire
8/1 Ballymac Denis
10/ Freedom Chief
