OMEGA Mission Hills World Cup Betting

The World Cup is a rare event on the golf tour as it is a team event, and unlike the Ryder Cup it uses a stroke play format, it involves a host of different nations and the teams consist of just two players. As of 2010, it was announced the World Cup would become a biennial rather than an annual event.

Each nation will enter a team pairing and the format makes for a unique and exciting golf betting opportunity.

The tournament now takes place every two years in November and is recognised by both the PGA Tour and European Tour. It has been held at a variety of different venues in recent years, with the Mission Hills Golf Club in China the current host. From a betting perspective, it could be worth a look at the odds of players who have had success at the host venue in recent years, while players from the host nation could enjoy a significant advantage.

The event was formerly part of the World Golf Championship series of events but not anymore, with the WGC-Cadillac, Accenture Matchplay, Bridgestone Invitational and HSBC Champions now the main WGC events.

USA have been the most successful nation in the World Cup over the years, although Sweden have enjoyed recent success, winning in 2008 and finishing runners up in 2009, with Henrik Stenson a central figure to their success.

A USA team of Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland hit six birdies in the final round to ensure American won the World Cup for a 24th time. USA overhauled Ireland's two shot lead on the final day, with Ireland eventually finishing tied for fourth, with England and Germany joint second.
