The World Golf Championship have been a smart introduction to the Golfing calendar as it entices the top players to take part in the four different events that make up these novel new championships. The four events are:
The World Championships kicked off with the Accenture Match Play Championship, a five-day event in a match play format. With the ever increasing popularity of the Ryder Cup, match play has become a big hit with golf fans. The tournament was won by Ian Poulter, who defeated fellow Englishman Paul Casey 4&2 in the final. Third place went to Camilo Villegas who thrashed Sergio Garcia into fourth place.

The Accenture Match Play is followed by the standard stroke play competition by the CA Championship, won in 2009 by World number two, Phil Mickelson. The 2010 tournament will be hosted by the TPC Blue Monster golf Course in Florida, between 8-14 March 2010.
The third World Championship event is the Bridgestone Invitational which will be held at the Firestone Country Club in Ohio between 3-8 August, 2010. Tiger Woods is the reigning champion.
The fourth and final leg of the World Championship is the HSBC Champions, won by Phil Mickelson in 2009 and which will be held at the Shesan International Golf Club in Shanghai between 5-8 November, 2010.
