Viking Classic Betting

The Viking Classic is part of the PGA Tour and it takes place each year at the Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi.

There is always plenty of value to be found in the ante-post betting and indeed in the in-running betting thanks to the unusual timing of the tournament. It has often served as an alternative event for the players and punters as it has taken place opposite the majors as it has moved around the tour calendar over the years.

It has taken place during the same week as the US Masters and the Ryder Cup in recent years, although from 2011 it was moved to July and is now an additional betting opportunity to the British Open.

It is a chance for the 'lesser lights of the tour to shine with so many of the big names competing in the British Open. When considering your ante-post bet, it is worth noting that the likes of Luke Donald, Bill Haas and Chad Campbell have won from short odds in the past but they are likely to be playing in the Open. So there could be another DJ Trahan or Heath Slocum to win from long odds this year and some value to be had.

Chris Kirk claimed the 2011 Viking Classic title for his first PGA Tour victory as he pipped George McNeill and Tom Penrice Jr. It could have been all so different but both McNeill and Penrice missed birdie putts on the 18th to allow Kirk to take victory.
