Open de Espana Golf Betting

The Open de Espana, or Spanish Open, has been part of the European Tour since it was established in 1972. It takes place each year in May at the RCG Sevilla and has a prestigious list of winners that includes Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo and Arnold Palmer. Although in recent years there have been several lesser known names taking victory in the $2 million event by upsetting the odds.

Alvaro Quiros was the winner in 2010 as he edged out  the relatively unknown James Morrison in a play-off. Morrison was massively unfancied in the ante-post betting but produced the goods in Seville and it is well worth looking out for those lesser fancied names when considering your own ante-post bet.

Meanwhile, the likes of Thomas Levet and Peter Lawrie have also claimed victory in recent years, while home favourite Sergio Garcia has won here in the past and will no doubt be looking to provide some home golf cheer once again.

When considering the odds it is also worth noting that nobody has won the Spanish Open more than once since Mark James in 1997 so it may be better to look away from the past and reigning champions in the betting. It is also interesting that Swedes have tended to perform well here with three Swedish winners, including Robert Karlsson, and three runners up in the last ten years up to 2011.

Francesco Molinari secured his first European Tour win of the season and the third of his career as he beat home favourite Alejandro Canizares by three shots in Seville.
