Scottish Open Betting

The Scottish Open in July is a hugely popular event with the bigger names on the European Tour as they fine tune preparations for the British Open a week later.

It is held at the Castle Stuart Golf Links nowadays after being moved from the Loch Lomond links course, which had been much criticised for being so different to the links courses used for the Open Championships.

All the same, it is well worth looking out for those players with links experience when considering your bet. And from a betting perspective it is a great opportunity to take a look at those European Tour players in decent form and generally there is great value to be found in the ante-post odds.

It helps that the Scottish Open carries a prize purse of £3 million, which is the biggest prize purse for a European Tour event that is not co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour, and it certainly attracts plenty of the top players.

Previous winners include the likes of Ernie Els, Eduardo Molinari and US Open winner Graeme McDowell, who will have all been well backed in the ante-post odds. While players at longer odds are not to be ruled out as Gregory Havret and Johan Edfors have proved in recent years.

Scottish Open 2011 Result

World number one Luke Donald got his British Open preparations off to a perfect start as he took the Scottish Open title to continue his stellar 2011 season. Donald hit a final round 64 to beat Fredrik Andersson Hed by four shots, while Colin Montgomerie couldn't get the top five finish he needed to qualify for the Open Championship.

There will be plenty of players from the European Tour hoping to win the British Open, the third major of the season, in July.

Padraig Harrington was a two time Open winner and is always popular with punters in the ante-post betting, while there will no doubt be a number of leading contenders once again from both the European and PGA Tours this year.
