The Presidents Cup Betting

The Presidents Cup offers a golf betting opportunity with a difference as it is a team event, much like the Ryder Cup, and bookmakers more often than not provide a variety of additional betting markets thanks to the matchplay format.

It is a biennial event, so it is held on alternate years to the Ryder Cup, and it involves two teams of twelve players and each side has a non-playing captain.

The two teams are USA v Rest of the World (less Europe), with the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Zach Johnson taking on a rest of a world side that has included Vijay Singh, Geoff Ogilvy and Retief Goosen in the past.

From a betting perspective, it provides an interesting opportunity to check out odds that are not normally available during the PGA Tour season. Online bookmakers often provide markets for four-ball betting and individual match betting, while it is worth noting that only three players have ever picked up a perfect record in the President's Cup - Mark O'Meara (1996), Shigeki Maruyama (1998) and Tiger Woods (2009).

The venue for the President's Cup alternates year on year, with the 2011 event held at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. European players don't take part in this particular tournament and they have their own Ryder Cup style event in the form of the Seve Trophy - which involves a GB&Ireland team versus a Continental Europe team.

USA won the Presidents Cup for the fourth time in succession and the seventh time in nine renewals of the event. Tiger Woods, who endured a record defeat in the four balls on the opening day, picked up the winning point for USA as they secured a 19-15 victory.
