Home / Golf / John Deere Classic
The John Deere Classic is a PGA Tour event that is held in July, just a week before the third major of the season - the British Open.
It is held at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, and there can often be plenty at stake for both the players and the betting public. A case in point was Sean O'Hair, who upset the odds to win the the 2005 John Deere Classic and in the process the win earned him a place at the British Open a week later. So it could be worth looking out for those players till looking to book their Open Championship ticket!
The quality of field on show in Illinois can vary greatly, with many of the players from the PGA Tour opting to head over to Ireland or Britain to gain some practise on links courses ahead of the Open.
But it is well worth noting when considering your ante-post bet that some top names from the tour have won the event in the past - not least Vijay Singh and two time champion Steve Stricker.
The event also made headlines in the world of sport and betting for vary different reasons in 2005, as Michelle Wie played as part of efforts to join the men's tour. She finished one under par and just missed the cut, and was back again in 2006 but was two over par when she withdraw with heat exhaustion. It will be interesting to see how the betting reacts if a female joins the men again anytime soon...

With the US Open over, the British Open is the next major in the calendar and it promises to be another classic this year. It is due to take place again in July and it is another exciting betting opportunity as the top names from the world of golf compete on British soil.
The top names are likely to be available at short odds again this year but the Open can throw up a surprise or two, as in 2010 when Louis Oosthuizen upset the odds to win his first ever major tournament.
