The BMW International Open is one of several European Tour events that are sponsored by BMW and it follows just a few weeks after the BMW Italian Open in the tour calendar.
Of more importance is the fact it takes place soon after the US Open and that can often have an effect on the player turnout and the betting. With a prize fund of 2 million(euros) it is far from the most prestigious of events, but it boasts an impressive list of past winners.
Ante-post favourite Martin Kaymer justified short odds to claim victory in 2008 at the Golf Club Munche Eichenried in Munich in Germany and he is a player that well worth looking out for in the ante-post betting. The German was the Race To Dubai winner in 2010 and could thrive in front of his home crowd.
Meanwhile, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie have all won in the past, while there have been a few that have come from nowhere to upset the betting - not least England's David Horsey in 2010
| Year | Winner | Country | Score |
| 2001 | John Daly | USA | 261 (-27) |
| 2002 | Thomas Bjorn | Denmark | 264 (-24) |
| 2003 | Lee Westwood | England | 269 (-19) |
| 2004 | Miguel Angel Jimenez | Spain | 267 (-21) |
| 2005 | David Howell | England | 265 (-23) |
| 2006 | Henrik Stenson | Sweden | 273 (-15) |
| 2007 | Niclas Fasth | Sweden | 275 (-13) |
| 2008 | Martin Kaymer | Germany | 273 (-15) |
| 2009 | Nick Dougherty | England | 266 (-22) |
| 2010 | David Horsey | England | 270 (-18) |
| 2011 | Pablo Larrazabal | Spain | 272 (-16) |
Sergio Garcia missed the opportunity to win his first tournament since November 2008 when he lost a play-off to countryman Pablo Larrazabal. The pair had exchanged the lead throughout the final day and in the end it took five extra holes for Larrazabal to take glory, although Garcia can take comfort from the fact his performance ensures his place at next month's British Open.
Result:
1. Pablo Larrazabal (Spa) - 272 (-16) Won Play-Off
2. Sergio Garcia (Spa) - 272 (-16)
3. George Coetzee (SA) - 274 (-14)
3. Mark Foster (Eng) - 274 (-14)
3. Retief Goosen (RSA) - 274 (-14)
3. Scott Jamieson (Sco) - 274 (-14)
3. Joost Luiten (Ned) 274 (-14)
