UBS Hong Kong Open Betting

The Hong Kong Open is one of the most anticipated events on the European Tour calendar, both from a betting and playing perspective. It is the final event before the season-ending Dubai World Championship, so players are desperate for points to ensure their place in the top 60 money earners in the Race To Dubai and seal their place at the lucrative final event of the season.

The tournament in Hong Kong takes place at the Hong Kong Golf Club in Fanling, New Territories, during December. It is co-sanctioned by both the Asian and European Tours, and there is always decent competition in the betting from players from both tours.

In 2008, China's Lin Wen Tang upset the odds to take the title, while there have been plenty of other more established names to win the tournament. Open Championship winner Padraig Harrington, Colin Montgomerie and Ian Poulter are previous winners, while it is interesting to note form a betting point of view that Spanish players have enjoyed great success - Miguel Angel Jimenez (twice), Jose Maria Olazabal and Jose Manuel Lara have all won the title in the past.

Meanwhile, history was made in the tournament in 2004 when Jason Hak became the youngest player to ever make the cut in a European Tour event at 14 years and 304 days.

Rory McIlroy finally on the Hong Kong Open after finishing runner up twice in recent years. The Northern Irishman beat Gregory Havret by two shots to claim the title and ensure there is still all to play for in the Race To Dubai as he looks to replace Luke Donald at the head of the money list at the final event of the season - the Dubai World Championship.
