The Dubai World Championship is an exciting addition to the European Tour golf calendar following its inception in 2009, and it is the culmination of the season long Race To Dubai which replaced the old Order of Merit.
The top 60 money winners from the European Tour, following the penultimate event at the Hong Kong Open, compete in November each year at the Dubai World Championship on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
The Dubai World Championship was first held in 2009 and it is a massively wealthy tournament as it carries a prize purse of $7.5 million. There will be plenty of opportunities for betting as the Race To Dubai draws towards its climax and the bookmakers' odds start to change depending on player form and fitness. The inaugural event attracted over 60,000 spectators during four days of brilliant golf which eventually saw Englishman Lee Westwood emerge victorious.
| Year | Winner | Country | Score |
| 2009 | Lee Westwood | England | 265 (-23) |
| 2010 | Robert Karlsson | Sweden | 273 (-14) |
| 2011 | Alvaro Quiros | Spain | 269 (-19) |
Luke Donald secured the Race To Dubai title by finishing third at the Dubai World Championship. Only Rory McIlroy could have beaten him to the title with a tournament win but the Northern Irishman fell away after playing superbly for the first two days.
Donald's achievement overshadowed Alvaro Quiro's impressive victory at the Dubai World Championship though as the Spaniard rediscovered his form from earlier in the season to take this lucrative event, with Scotland's Paul Lawrie second two shots back.
Result:
1. Alvaro Quiros (Spain) - 269 (-19)
2. Paul Lawrie (Scotland) - 271 (-17)
3. Luke Donald (England) - 272 (-16)
