The Crown Plaza Invitational at Colonial takes place each year at the Colonial Country Club in Texas during May each year. It is an exciting part of the PGA Tour and golf betting for several reasons, not least its fine tradition which makes it the oldest tournament to still be played at its original venue.
As an invitational tournament it is a unique event and only one of five invitationals on the tour. Other Invitational Tournaments include:
Arnold Palmer Invitational | The Heritage
The tournament is invitational in that it involves a reduced field of 125, meaning there is usually plenty of quality on show and real competition for favouritism in the odds for the tournament. The tournament does offer a Champions Choice invitation though where two deserving young players are allowed to participate and Dave Stockton was the last and only 'choice' player to win the tournament the year he as invited. It could be worth a look at the odds of someone repeating that feat this year.
There was significant interest in the betting for the $6.2 million event in 2003 when Annika Sorenstam took part in the men's event, although she eventually missed the cut.
In recent years there have been some high quality names at the head of the betting and the leaderboard with Zach Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Steve Stricker all winners.

| 2004 | Steve Flesch | USA | 269 (-11) |
| 2005 | Kenny Perry | USA | 261 (-19) |
| 2006 | Tim Herron | USA | 268 (-12) |

| 2010 | Zach Johnson | USA | 259 (-21) |
| 2011 | David Toms | USA | 265 (-15) |
David Toms won his first PGA Tour event since 2006 as he closed out with a final round 67 to claim victory. It was his 13th tour victory as he beat Charlie Wi by one shot, with Bo Van Pelt four shots further back.
Result:
1. David Toms (USA) - 265 (-15)
2. Charlie Wi (South Korea) - 266 (-14)
3. Bo Van Pelt (USA) - 270 (-10)
The HP Byron Nelson Championship also takes place in Texas and is one of only two PGA Tour tournaments named after a professional golfer, alongside the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
There is often a high quality field at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas with the likes of Adam Scott, Jason Day, Vijay Singh and Sergio Garcia amongst past winners and this year is again likely to see plenty of competition in the betting.....
