The Omega European Masters gets underway this week at the Crans-Sur-Sierre course in Switzerland as the ‘Race To Dubai’ gathers momentum and as it nears its conclusion. Favourite to win ahead of the event is Spaniard, Miguel Angel Jimenez with odds of 12/1 with Ladbrokes. Having made automatic selection for the Ryder Cup, Jimenez can play with a lot less pressure on his shoulders in this event, but it will be his third tournament in as many weeks and he could be just a little jaded and maybe a one to lay this week.

The Johnnie Walker success was the Italian’s second tournament win in the last couple of months. He won the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond in July which followed a runners up spot in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, as well as a third place in the Scandinavian Masters and fourth in both the Dubai Desert Classic and the Welsh Open. These results have capped a great year for the older brother of Francesco and have launched him up the world rankings to number 15. He is clearly in great form and at 16/1 he may well be worth backing for a third tour win of the year.

South African, Charle Scnwartzel, will be making his first appearance since his tie for 18th place in the USPGA Championship last month will be looking to return his early season form which saw him win twice on the South African leg of the European tour. With only missed cut all year, Schwartzel would certainly have the consistency to be in the mix in this event come the final day and we would not put anyone off betting on him with odds of 16/1, again with Ladbrokes.
Open Champion, Louis Oosthuizen will be looking to get back to winning ways after he missed the cut in the PGA Championship. The South African, with two wins on tour this season and a further six top ten finishes is determined to prove that his ‘Open’ success was no fluke and would go a long way in proving that with a win in Switzerland. Oosthuizen is 20/1 to win the event and is our tip to do so. Also with odds of 20/1 is Welshman, Bradley Dredge, winner here in 2006 and runner up last year behind Alexander Noren of Sweden. He clearly enjoys this course and would have to be a serious contender to be right up there this week. He looks to be an excellent Each Way prospect.
