Ross Fisher, after an incredible course record, second round of 61 leads the Irish Open at Killarney at the halfway point. The Englishman is three shots clear of Francesco Molinari going into today’s third round and has also been made the warm order favourite to win the tournament. Ladbrokes Bookmakers for instance, quote Fisher at 13/8 to win with Molinari next best at 4/1.
Fisher looked set to become a world top ten player last season after a string of outstanding results, particularly in the Majors, which culminated in him winning the Volvo World Matchplay last November. However he has failed to reproduce that form so far this year and has even gone out of contention for an automatic Ryder Cup place; his round yesterday nonetheless seemed to confirm that he was now back in top form. It was made up of fantastic tee to green play backed up by solid putting, the only disappointing feature is that he did not manage to become the first European to break 60 for a tournament round of golf.
2010 Irish Open Odds Comparison
Molinari, who is the older of the two brothers has also played superbly well and will be a threat to Fisher over the weekend. Although he missed the cut in the Open Championship a fortnight ago, he did finish in a tie for 2nd and a tie for 4th in his previous two tournaments so is clearly in great form and the 4/1 about him winning should not be ignored.

Perhaps the biggest threat to Fisher will come from the Irish themselves insofar as they have both Rory McIlroy and Padraig Harrington just five shots behind in a tie for third place. One shot adrift of them comes Darren Clarke who is another who has been showing a return to form over the last few weeks. All three will be extremely well supported by the galleries as well as by the punters who can back them to win with Ladbrokes.com with the following odds:
Defending champion, Shane Lowry struggled in Round One, but stormed back in Round Two with an excellent 65 which leaves him 9 off the lead and probably out of contention, although he can still be backed by the faithful to win at 100/1 with ladbrokes.com
13/8 Fisher
5/1 McIlroy
10/1 Harrington
25/1 Greene
25/1 Fernandez-Castano
25/1 Hansen
25/1 Clarke
33/1 BAR
