Deutsche Bank Championship Odds: Donald favourite in Boston

The TPC Boston hosts this week's second event in the FedEx Play-offs, as the field has been whittled down to 100 to play in the Deutsche Bank Championship beginning on Thursday. Last week's Barclays tournament was cut short due to Hurricane Irene, with Dustin Johnson winning what was a birdie-fest over 54 holes. The forecast this week in Boston looks fair, so the players can get back down to business over 72 holes.

Favourite yet again for a PGA Tour event is the world number one Luke Donald who currently sits fifth in the FedEx Cup standings. Donald finished with a pair of 66's at the Barclays last week on a course that was far more suited to lonker hitters than him, leaving him tied for eighteenth place. A winner of the WGC Accenture Matchplay back at the start of the year, Donald narrowly missed out at the PGA Championship with yet another solid and consistent major. He was tied for second in this event twelve months ago and has been priced up at 12/1 favourite this week by bookmaker Bet365.

Second in the betting is Steve Stricker, a winner here two years ago. With two wins to his name this season, Stricker finished outside of the top twenty last week for the first time in eleven outings, albeit tied for 24th. The ultra-consisten Stricker is a similar player to Donald, not particularly long but a razor sharp short game and leads the tour in strokes gained putting and birdie average. The American hasn't finished outsside of the top thirteen in this event in his last five appearances and backing him at 14/1 with Bet 365 should give you a run for your money.

Adam Scott continues his good end of season form, having won the WGC Bridgestone earlier in the month and following that up with a good display in the PGA Championship. Scott is third favourite here at 16/1 and is currently 23rd in the FedEx standings following an average finish in last week's barclays. Fellow Aussie Jason Day is another who is well supported in the betting at 18/1 with Bet365. Day finished runners up in both the Masters and US Open earlier this season and his tied for thirteenth finish in last week's Barclays was his nineth top fifteen finish in eighteen starts.

Last week's winner Dustin Johnson now heads the FedEx Cup standings, up to first from nineteenth. The languid American ate up Plainfield and was ranked in the top ten for distance off the tee, greens hit and putting. It's a tough ask for Johnson to win back to back but has course form having tied for fourth here two years ago and can be backed at 18/1 this week.

Further down the betting, Vijay Singh and Camilo Villegas both caught the eye with excellent displays in last week's Barclays to propel themselves up the FedEx rankings. Singh shot up to eighth from 36th following his tied for third place in New Jersey last week. Singh is also the course record holder here and the only two time winner of the event and can be backed at 33/1 to turn back the clock again in 2011. Villegas has had a very quiet year, but his tied sixth finish last week enabled him to shoot up to 51st in the standings from 109. The Columbian may have hit form at the right time, having hit every single green in his final round last weekend, he can be backed at 45/1 to get his first win of the year this Sunday.
