As the countdown begins for the 2010 Open Championship at St Andrews, many of the Players will be looking to get their game in shape well beforehand. This is why it is so good to see so many quality players competing this week in the Alstom French Open Golf Championship at the 7.300 yard, par 71, National French Golf centre in Versailles. The Bookmakers have reported plenty of betting activity ahead of the tournament and have now established the betting market headed by World Number three, Lee Westwood, who has odds of 11/1 with VC Bet.
French Open Golf Championship LIVE on Sky Sports 3 from Thursday, 1st July at 10.30.
Westwood in fact finished runner up here last year to Martin Kaymer, who will also be here looking to defend his crown as well as win his second tournament of the year. The German, who is world ranked number 11 is next best in the betting with odds of 16/1, while at 20/1 is the resurgent, Luke Donald, winner of the recent Madrid Masters as well as finishing tied second in The BMW PGA Championship and third in the Welsh Open in three of his last four tournaments. This run of form has promoted Donald to his highest ever position at number 7, in the Official World rankings.
Alstom French Open Players Odds Comparison
Other top ranked players who line up in Versailles, include Ian Poulter, whose form has gone a little west lately, with four Missed Cuts in his last seven events, although in between this poor run he did finish in a tie for 10th in the US Masters. Poulter however remains currently at number 8 in the world and knows that a return to form in France will see him consolidate that position. He should be confident too, he finished third here last year and really enjoys the course. At 25/1 with Victor Chandler we think he is an excellent bet to win this week.
Ross Fisher made a welcome return to form last week in the BMW International in Munich, his second place behind, Paul Horsey, might just be the boost this highly talented golfer needs after a poor run of form which saw him miss cuts in the US Masters, The Players Championship and the US Open. If he wants to keep his Ryder Cup aspirations alive then he will need to be in contention at least this week. We certainly think he a very good each way consideration at 25/1.
