Justin Rose Is The Best Bet To Be Top European At The Ryder Cup
The European Team may be underdogs for the 2016 Ryder Cup but they have some proven performers who will no doubt attract attention in the Top European Player betting market. It is a player who is on the verge of writing himself into the record books as a Ryder Cup legend who stands out for us in this particular bracket...
- Justin Rose has finished in the top-three of the overall combined points scored in each of his 3 Ryder Cup appearances - 3rd in 2008, 2nd in 2012, 1st in 2014
- Justin Rose has a win percentage of 64% in Ryder Cup matches

The Big Six
When considering a bet on the Top European Player it is worth considering who you think will play five matches across the three days of action. With six debutants in the twelve-man team, it is fair to assume that the experienced Ryder Cup players will be getting plenty of playing time, which leads us to the 'big six' of Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer.
The latter three all have very decent Ryder Cup pedigrees having played major roles in Europe's sensational run of three straight victories over the USA but their recent form on a personal level ensures that we will be swerving them for the purposes of this article.
Meanwhile, Henrik Stenson is a favourite of ours and he is a wonderful performer on his day, as evidenced by his maiden major win at the Open Championship, but the recent injury worries that curtailed his season ensure we will have to see how he pulls up.
Which leaves us with Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose.
McIlroy v Rose
McIlroy is in wonderful touch right now as he won the Fed Ex Cup with victories at both the Deutsche Bank Championship and the season-ending Tour Championship. The Northern Irishman will be bubbling with confidence right now and it is no surprise to see that he is 7/2 favourite to be Top European Player (Paddy Power).
However, while McIlroy's win-rate of 43% over 14 Ryder Cup matches is very impressive, it pales in comparison to the 64% success-rate of Justin Rose, who looks the value to be Top European Points Scorer at 6/1 with Bet Victor.
Rose has taken ten points from three appearances at the Ryder Cup (2008, 2012, 2014), winning nine, halving two and losing only three of his matches. He has finished in the top-three of the overall combined points scorer standings in each of his three Ryder Cup outings (3rd in 2008, 2nd in 2012, 1st in 2014) and there is something about team play that brings out the best in him.
The Englishman boasts a W6-L3-H1 record in the Seve Trophy and he also has previous at the World Cup for England, racking up two runner-up finishes and two other top-fours from four appearances.
Rose has enjoyed a decent enough year as he won Olympic gold in Rio and the seven-time winner on the PGA Tour, which includes his 2013 US Open success of course, is the one player who can strike fear into USA players.
