Shane Lowery will travel to the magnificent Killarney Golf and Fishing Club this week, looking to defend the title he won as an amateur last year. The 23 year old from Co Louth, has established himself in his first full season on the Professional circuit at number 82 in the World Rankings and has shown some very reasonable form leading up to the event. Nonetheless the bookmakers give him little hope of repeating his success with Paddy Power Bookmakers offering odds on him to win at 33/1
Instead of Lowery, the bookies seem to fancy an Irish man from the North of the island instead, and have made the brilliant Rory McIlroy the favourite, with yet another Ulsterman, Graeme McDowell sharing second favouritism with Englishman, Justin Rose.
2010 Irish Open Golf Odds Comparison.
McIlroy who played spectacularly well in the first round of the recent Open Championship at St Andrews, where he tied ultimately for third place has now risen to number 8 in the world rankings and with him having so much ability he is hard to resist in the market with odds of 7/1 from Paddy Power.
McDowell however, who achieved the near impossible by winning the US Open at Pebble Beach in June has shown already since that his first ‘major’ win will do nothing to stop him from seeking further success and he comes to Killarney determined to show the home crowd why he is now regarded as one of the best players in the world. McDowell is certainly tempting to back with odds of 14/1.

Yet another Irishman, Padraig Harrington will be looking for a big win this week. The three times ‘Major’ winner has had another up and down year in 2010 and is still yet to grab a Ryder Cup place. Harrington missed the cut at St Andrews a result which has seen him slip down the World Rankings to number 18 and he knows another bad result in Killarney will push him further down. Nonetheless he won this event in 2007 and he is known to like the course. Harrington looks a good each way betting candidate to us with odds of 16/1 from Paddy Power.com.
Other players who come to mind and who are worth looking at are the in form Darren Clarke (33/1), Justin Rose (14/1), a two time winner in the USA this year, Francesco Molinari (18/1) who has three top five finishes in last six events and Ross Fisher (20/1) of England who is now showing the form that got him into the top 20 in the world last year. These players, we believe are all good each way prospects.
For our money however, we are going to back McDowell to win. We think he will love this course, he is fantastic form and he has a huge incentive of adding the Irish Open to his US and Scottish versions. McDowell is 14/1 with Paddy Power.com
7/1 R McIlroy
