The start of the 2012 PGA Tour season is moving ever closer and bookmakers are already pricing up who could end the year at the head of the tour's money list. Luke Donald claimed the title last year but Boylesports fancy Tiger Woods to bounce back to form and he is their 3/1 favourite to top the money list.
Woods tops the all time money list on the PGA Tour and is closing in on Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA tournament wins. However, the past two years have been tough for Woods and his career hasn't panned out as we would have expected. He has won 71 PGA events and is a 14-time major winner, still four behind Jack Nicklaus's record, and the bookies clearly fancy he will rediscover that form.
The American ended a 107 week streak without a tournament win by claiming the Chevron World Challenge in December, following a third place at the Australian Open, and he is short priced to continue that form in 2012.
The upcoming season could witness an enthralling battle between Woods, the old master, and Rory McIlroy, who is fancied to go on to become one of the sport's greats. The Northern Irishman is a pretender to Woods' crown at the moment but surely the US Open winner will add a few more major tournament wins over the next few years and he is 8/1 to end the season at the top of the PGA Tour money list.
Luke Donald is still searching for his first major title but he took the tour title last season by holding off Webb Simpson in the final event. The Englishman of course became the first player to take the European Tour money list title as well as he held off a late bid from McIlroy to win the Race To Dubai. Donald won four times last term and he is 11/1 with Boylesports, although his first priority will no doubt be to win a major to justify his world number one ranking.
Lee Westwood is also searching for his first major title and he will be hoping to carry his sensational form from the Thailand Golf Championship into the new season. Westwood was a record 18 under par after 36 holes in Bangkok and he is 16/1 to win the PGA Tour, although it remains to be seen whether he will continue to spend his time on the European Tour.
There are then a host of American players in the odds to win the tour money list, with Dustin Johnson, fifth last year, the shortest priced at 14/1. Last season's runner-up Webb Simpson is available at 16/1 as he looks to improve on a fine 2011 that saw him win two tournaments and secure six top five finishes. Nick Watney also claimed two titles last term and eventually finished third in the money list, with Boylesports.com pricing him 18/1.
Meanwhile, Adam Scott looks a tempting punt at odds of 22/1 in what could be a big season for the 31-year-old. The Australian finished eleventh last season and we fancy the world number five could really kick on this season after he racked up nine top ten finishes in 2011, including a win in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and second at the Masters.
