For the first time since 1968, the Canadian Open will be played on the Par 71, St. George's Golf and Country Club Course in Toronto. Co -Favourites in the betting currently are England’s world ranked number’s 8 and 9, Paul Casey and Luke Donald, who share the 16/1 betting odds on offer from Ladbrokes, with American Sean O’Hair and South Africa’s, Refief Goosen.
All four men played 4 rounds at the Open Championship last week at St Andrews and all will face the same difficulty of jetting back over the Atlantic and getting into a tournament almost immediately. We always believe that these type of travelling arrangements are always a handicap, which is why we will not be supporting any of them to win this week.
Canadian Open Odds Comparison.
One player who missed the cut at St Andrews and has had a little more preparation time for Canada is Tim Clark, the South African golfer, currently ranked 24 in the world. Clark won the ‘5th Major’, ‘The Players Championship’ at Sawgrass earlier this year and also showed good form in the two events leading up to the ‘British Open’, finishing tied 12th in the US Open and tied 7th in the John Deere Classic. He would be one player that we think could produce the goods this week and is certainly worth backing each way with odds of 20/1 with Ladbrokes.com.
once again former US Masters champion, Mike Weir will be leading the home charge to become the first Canadian since 1954 to win the event. Left hander, Weir has been close on a number of occasions, but his form over the last two years has been woeful and he has slipped to number 82 in the world. Nonetheless, he usually plays well on home soil and he might be worth backing on an each way basis with odds of 50/1. Also a possible each way consideration is defending champion, Nathan Green from Australia. He showed absolutely no form whatsoever prior to winning this in 2009 which is the same again this time around, but some events bring the best out in certain players and Green will be one player who has something to prove this week. The Australian is a 150/1 chance.

The player we are going to back this week comes in the unlikely form of American, Brandt Snedeker, who seems to be re-discovering his touch of late with two excellent finishes in the AT&T and the US Open at Pebble Beach. He has finished inthe top ten twice before in Canada and at 50/1 with ladbrokes.com looks to be as good a bet as any.
