The European Tour moves to Sweden this week for the Nordea Masters at the Bro Hoff Slot Golf Club and there are several familiar faces from the British Open in attendance. The big hitting Dustin Johnson was tied for second at Royal St George's last week and he is a short odds favourite with Stan James at 8/1.
However, how much Johnson's efforts have taken out of him at Sandwich remains to be seen. The players had to deal with tough conditions throughout the Open and we fancy the demands of the third major of the season may have taken a bit too much out of the American and there could be better value elsewhere.
The course in Sweden is a notoriously long and tough course, and while Robert Karlsson has struggled with his accuracy off the tee in the last year, we fancy the Scandinavian star could excel this week. Stan James price the world number nineteen at 10/1 and he could be worth a look, particularly as he finished a very fine seventh here last year.
Karlsson's last two outings have ended in disappointment as he struggled at the US Open, despite hitting a 67, and he missed the cut at the British Open when he had to contend with some of the worst conditions of the week. He is far better than that, as eleven tour wins would suggest, and it is well worth remembering that he has decent form on the PGA Tour having finished fifth at Colonial and runner up in the St Jude Classic.
Another big name heads to Sweden this week, although 14/1 shot Bubba Watson has endured some tough times of late. Watson has a best finish of tied 30th since winning the Zurich Classic of New Orleans three months ago and he will hope to rediscover his touch this week.
Also at 14/1 is Henrik Stenson, although he is another that has been far from his best as he has missed five cuts in his last nine events.
Of more value could be a look at Welshman Jamie Donaldson at 22/1 as he continues his search for a first win on the main tour. Donaldson finished eighth in the Nordea Masters last year and has been in great nick of late, finishing in the top ten in four of his last seven events. Furthermore, he hasn't missed a cut in 18 outings and surely that first tour win is just around the corner.
Swede Fredrik Andersson Hed could be on the verge of something special as he arrives in very fine nick and is worth of each way consideration at odds of 40/1 with StanJames.com. He tied eleventh here last year and has coped well with tough conditions in the past two weeks - tying for second at the Scottish Open, which included a round of 62, and making the British Open cut.
Finally, defending champion Richard Johnson is also available at 40/1 after he beat Rafa Echenique by a stroke last year, although he has failed to pick up a top twenty finish this season.
