Refief Goosen will be hoping to successfully defend his Transitions Golf Championship this week in Tampa Bay, Florida and make it another good week for South African golf. His compatriots, Ernie Els and Charle Schwartzel, finished first and second respectively last week in the WGC-CA Championship and Goosen will be looking for a similar outcome in this. The two time ‘Major’ winner is amongst the favourites in the betting to win the event with best odds of 28/1 offered by Paddy Power.
The event is to be televised by Sky Sports from Thursday to Sunday, 18-21 March.
Favourite in the betting to win, is world ranked, number 2, Steve Stricker who is quoted at around the 14/1 mark. Already a winner of the Northern Trust Open in February, Stricker continues to carve out good results, which has seen him gain two other top ten finishes already this year from only five events played. He also finished in a respectable 16th place last week in the WGC-CA and comes into this tournament in good nick and as the worthy favourite.

Also looking back to best form is Irishman, Padraig Harrington, who would love to win this event as it coincides with the same week as St Patricks Day. Harrington finished in a tie for third place last week, where he demonstrated that his swing was back in action and his confidence was high. The Tournament organisers were hoping that Tiger Woods would have announced his comeback to coincide with playing here as it is one of his local course’s and because he has won here several times in the past. However, Woods will not be back until the Masters next month, but nonetheless there is still 14 of the world’s top 25 playing this week, which should make for a great event.
in addition to Harrington, Europe has several other top players in the line up, including world number 6 and WGC-CA Matchplay champion, Ian Poulter. Luke Donald, Ross Fisher and Justin Rose are also in the field and all pose a serious threat of victory. The Bookmakers particularly like the look of Poulter however in this and have him as short as 25/1 to claim his second victory of the year.
One player we like the look of for this is Englishman, Ross Fisher. He showed signs last week, particularly in the final round that he is striking the ball really well and provided his putting can be of the same standard as his iron play then he would be a worthy each way bet, with odds of 55/1, also available from paddypower
