The FedEx Cup reaches its conclusion next week as the remaining 30 players left in the Play-offs head to East Lake in Atlanta to contest the Tour Championship Grand Finale. The last 30 do not include, defending champion, Tiger Woods, whose lacklustre form was not enough, he will have to content himself with an all out effort for the Ryder Cup which follows this event a week later. Favourite to win the final tournament is defending champion Phil Mickelson with odds of 15/2 offered by Paddy Power with the next three in the betting, Steve Stricker, Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar all at 8/1 with the same Bookmaker.
As golf fans will know the Tour Championship is the final leg of the FedEx Cup so in effect there are two first prizes up for grabs. However only the top five players in the FedEx Cup standings are guaranteed to win the FedEx Cup, but to do so one of them must win this final event. Those five players in FedEx Cup standing are:

Of course it is not impossible for any of the top 30 to win the FedEx Cup, but it will depend largely on how the leaderboard looks at the end, the higher a player is in the top 30 before this finale event, the better his chances. Clearly however, the top five will have the extra incentive of knowing that winning the Tour Championship means winning the FedEx Cup and the $10m.
World ranked number 7, Paul Casey, is one of four ‘Brits’ still in the 30, but the only one who would be guaranteed to win both, should he win at East Lake due to him filling fifth place in the standings. Victory for him this week would be a very fitting end to a fantastic season, but a season in which he was ignored as a ‘Ryder Cup Wild Card Pick’.
