Of course US captain, Corey Pavin has four ‘wildcard picks’ with many asking the question if world number one, Tiger Woods, will be amongst them. It is a question that the Bookmakers have no doubt about the answer to as Paddypower for instance have him as a 2/13 odds on certainty to be in the team.
Whether Woods is in the team or not it should not make too much difference to the outlook of the Europeans, whose team will not be finalised for another month. This would mean that players of the calibre of Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald, Robert Karlsson and Justin Rose would need a ‘wildcard’ from captain, Colin Montgomerie to make the team.
Europe in fact have been made favourites to win back the Cup with odds of 8/13 with Paddy Power while the Americans can be backed at 13/8 with an unlikely draw available at 10/1.
An interesting market has been created by Paddy Power Bookmakers, which allows punters to back the player who they think will hit the hole winning putt that decides the match. Irishman, Padraig Harrington for Europe and Tiger Woods for the USA have been made favourites in this market at 14/1, despite neither player being absolutely sure of his place in their respective teams. A more solid bet therefore in this market would be for it to come from the youngest player, Rory McIlroy with odds of 16/1.
