There is nothing to choose between the two sides for this week's Presidents Cup at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia. Defending champions USA take on the International team in this biennial event and each are priced evens to win the tournament, while Ladbrokes make the tie a 10/1 punt.
It is slightly different to the Ryder Cup as it is a four day event and there are 34 points up for grabs. Two teams of twelve players will compete, with Fred Couples leading the USA team and Greg Norman in charge of the International side.
Couples' men have won six of the eight renewals of the Presidents Cup, including each of the last three. Phil Mickelson has played in each of those eight tournaments and he is available at odds of 8/1 to be USA's top points scorer this week.
The biggest name in the team though is the controversial selection of Tiger Woods. The former world number one has failed to win a tournament for two years but appeared to justify Couples' faith by finishing third at the Australian Open last week. Woods lost out by just two shots as he again showed an appetite for Australian courses.
It bodes well for USA that Woods looked so good last week and his experience will be crucial as the Americans field six Presidents Cup debutants. Woods is the highest points scorer in the event's history and he has won eighteen of his thirty matches, including all five at the 2009 tournament.
Woods' performance in Australia last week saw him clipped in to 6/1 favourite to be top USA point scorer and in to 10/1 to be top combined points scorer with Ladbrokes.
Much has been made of Woods' meeting with his former caddie Steve Williams this week, as Williams is now the caddie of Adam Scott, but all the attention should be on the golf the two players produce. We fancy Scott's team could hold a crucial advantage heading into Melbourne.
Australian Greg Norman has picked five Australian players in his International team and their knowledge of home conditions could make all the difference. Jason Day, Adam Scott and Geoff Ogilvy all tied for fourth at the Australian Open and they are all on the same team this week.
Day is the 5/1 favourite to be top scorer for the International team, while Scott is a 6/1 bet, as well as a tempting 14/1 punt to be top combined points scorer.
We fancy the look of Ogilvy to shine here though after his final round 65 on Sunday and the fact he grew up on the Melbourne course makes him a great pick. He is 7/1 to be the International team's top points scorer on his home course and that looks well worth backing with Ladbrokes.com.
Home advantage should be key and we fancy the International team to pick up only their second win in the history of the event. They won back in 1998 and tied in 2003 but could be set to end that drought, with the correct score of 18-16 available at odds of 11/1.
