Two of the form men on the European Tour go head-to-head in this week's Iskandar Johor Open at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club in Malaysia. Louis Oosthuizen and Anthony Kim share favouritism at odds of 8/1 with Boylesports, while defending champion Padraig Harrington will attempt to retain his title.
The $2m event is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and both Oosthuizen and Kim arrive on the back of fine performances at last week's Singapore Open. The pair tied for third and Oosthuizen could be the pick of the two as the 2010 British Open winner is finally rediscovering some semblance of form.
The South African won the Africa Open at the start of the year but has failed to reach such heights since. He looks back to his best though after finishing fourth in the McGladrey Classic, seventh at the WGC HSBC and he secured third in Singapore with a final round 65. He has now finished in the top seven on four occasions in his last five appearances and with rain expected to play a part this week, Oosthuizen could well justify best priced odds of 8/1.
Kim too is confident after back to back thirds in the CJ Invitational and in Singapore, where he closed with a final round 64. The three-time PGA Tour event winner has missed three cuts in his last six though and that inconsistency gives Oosthuizen the edge.
Camilo Villegas had been a model of consistency before Singapore as he racked up five top 25 finishes, including three top sixes, in five events, although he missed the cut last week and is an 18/1 punt with Boylesports.com.
Few players though can boast the consistency that Joost Luiten has shown and the Dutchman is available at industry best priced odds of 20/1. Luiten was tied fifth in Singapore after a final round 67 left him just two shots off the lead. He is still looking for a first win on the European Tour but surely that first victory cannot be too far away.
Defending champion Harrington is also available at 20/1 after he ended a two year winless streak at this event in 2010. He finished 20 under par to claim a two shot victory and he will be hoping that lightning can strike twice as he has failed to threaten the top of a leaderboard since that win. Harrington could do with a win as he is currently 76th in the Race To Dubai rankings and he needs to move up into the top 60 if he is to be eligible for the season-ending Dubai World Championship.
Elsewhere, Danny Lee is available at 25/1 after he tied for fifth in Singapore to claim his fourth top eight finish in five events.
Jamie Donaldson could offer a bit more value as an each-way punt at 30/1 with Boyles though as he claimed three top ten finishes, including a tied third at the European Masters, before taking a break. He played well in Asia this time last year, picking up two top tens, and he could be a decent punt.
