The European Tour moves to India this week following the 'Desert Swing' leg of the tour and it is a slightly weakened field at the Avantha Masters with many of the top players heading for America. It means there is some fantastic value to be found in the betting for the event at the DLF Golf and Country Club in New Delhi as some lesser names look for a rare chance to shine. Boylesports have Soren Hansen, Jeev Milkha Singh and Thongchai Jaidee as joint favourites in the ante-post betting at 16/1 but we fancy there is value to be found elsewhere.
There is a strong Asian contingent in New Delhi but it is an in form Spaniard who looks a decent punt at 20/1 in the betting with Boyles. Rafael Cabrera-Bello has had a good start to the 2011 season with a season's best finish of 3rd at the Qatar Masters and a 7th placed finish in the HSBC Championship, with a 30th place the worst he has come in five events so far. He is 11th in the Race To Dubai rankings and we fancy he could take advantage of a weakened field and secure a first win of the season.
Meanwhile, it is a rare chance for players from the Asian Tour to shine with the big names away and India's most successful golfer Jeev Milkha Singh is at the head of the betting. However, he had a disappointing 2010 and was 42nd at the Dubai Desert Classic which followed a poor run of results where he finished, 71st, 63rd and 45th before that. The leading Asian player Thongchai Jaidee is also at 16/1 in the betting but has managed just one top ten this year and came 95th in Dubai. Jaidee is likely to be competing at the top of the leaderboard though and looks the best qualified to mount a challenge out of the three at the head of the ante-post betting.
Denmark's Soren Hansen is the other joint favourite with Boylesports.com but he has failed to record a European Tour win since 2007 and a 78th placed finish in Dubai suggests he is some way from tournament winning form.
There will be no Martin Kaymer or Lee Westwood teeing off on Thursday but the reigning Avantha Masters champion Andrew Dodt is in attendance. The Australian Dodt was the surprise package last year and he highlights the value to be found as the defending champion is available as a 50/1 bet for this week's $2.3 million event. Fellow countryman Scott Strange is in good form this year after finishing 4th in Dubai and 11th in Abu Dhabi and he is 28/1 to win this week, or alternatively you can back him to place at 11/2.
