Two time winner and reigning champion, Geoff Ogilvy jointly heads the field for this week’s Golf WGC World Match Play in Arizona, which unfortunately does not include world number one, Tiger Woods nor number three, Phil Mickelson. Nonetheless it is still a very strong field with most of the world’s top 64 players involved many of them coming to the tournament in great form. Ogilvy has odds of 14/1 currently with Boylesports and will begin his defence with a first round match against Swede, Alexander Noren.
Joint favourite also with odds of 14/1, is the new world number two player, Steve Stricker who won this event back in 2001, he has already won one tournament this year so far and comes to Arizona in great from. He will open up against England’s Ross McGowan.

The European challenge is particularly strong this year, with last year’s runner up, Paul Casey, former winner. Henrik Stenson and the in form, Martin Kaymer all among the favourites, but all with attractive odds to win.
There are some cracking first round matches to be enjoyed too, that not only will provide outstanding viewing but also plenty of betting and in-running betting opportunities for golf punters. A selection of just a few of those games will give a better idea of the quality on offer:

With no Woods in the field there are any number of players who can win this trophy, but there are one or two players who tend to do well year in, year out. Players such as Ogilvy, who won in both 2006 and 2009 and was runner up in 2007 obviously has an exceptional Matchplay pedigree, who knows how to win on this particular course. Reigning British Open champion, Stewart Cink was third last season and was runner up to Tiger Woods in 2008, he is another who clearly has the feel for the tournament and for the course and should be worth following if he should come through his first round match with Eduardo Molinari intact. We think that Cink with odds of 40/1 with Boylesports is an outstanding each way bet this week.
