With five wins between them in 2010, it is little wonder that Ryder Cup team mates, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Graeme McDowell dispute favouritism in the betting ahead of this week’s latest Race to Dubai tournament, the Austrian Open Golf Championship. Jimenez has been made the 7/1 favourite with Ladbrokes who make McDowell, the 2010 US Open champion, a point worse off at 8/1, with next best in the betting being Spaniard, Gonzalo Fernandez Castano at 12/1.The two Ryder Cup stars are in Austria more for preparation than to win, but their undoubted class will have to be a telling factor on the tournaments outcome.
Austrian Open Golf Championship Odds Comparison
Last year’s winner, Rafael Cabrero-Bello, will not be here to defend his title, which makes little sense as he played magnificently last year when he became only the third player on tour to card a final round of 60 to win a tournament. His absence is somewhat of a blow to the organisers, but either way it will be played at a new venue this year, the Diamond Country Club Golf Course in Atzenbruuge near Vienna, which is a testing course where accuracy will be at a premium as opposed to length off the tee. Despite being only 159 yards from the tee the fifteenth hole is particularly hazardous, , with the green built on an island. The hole has already earned itself the reputation as the toughest hole in the course.

In addition to the obvious two candidates to win the event, other players who should not be ruled out are American Todd Hamilton, who showed up well last week in the KLM Open where he finished in a tie for 11th place. Hamilton of course is a former Open Champion winning at Royal Troon in 2004, but over recent years he has slipped almost out of sight and is down to 219 in the world rankings. His performance in Holland last week followed a run of six missed cuts and a total of 17 missed cuts in just 21 events in 2010. Little wonder then that there are grave doubts that Hamilton will be up with the leaders this week, but he certainly seems more comfortable playing in Europe and may be worth an each plunge at 50/1 with Ladbrokes.
Another player who may well be worth some betting consideration is Swede, Pelle Edberg, who has enjoyed some hint of form lately and although he has been playing on the Challenger Tour for some of the season, it would not be beyond him to put in a top five performance in Austria ;would be one of our choices for an each way bet, with odds of 40/1 from Ladbrokes.com
