The Betting for the Sony Open Golf Championships in Hawaii this week has World Number three, Steve Stricker as favourite to win with odds of 12/1 with Ladbrokes. Stricker had a marvellous year in 2009 winning three top quality events and has started the new year off well with a solid top ten finish in the last week’s SBS Championship.
Last year’s winner, Zach Johnson is rated an 18/1 chance by Victor Chandler to retain his title. Johnson was 18th in last week’s SBS and has been playing consistently solid for several months.
With four top five finishes in his last five events, including a tie for 4th last week, rising star, Sean O’hair has been well backed and is currently second in the betting at 16/1 also with Victor Chandler.

The Sony Open has been in existence for 11 years and has had ten different winners. The only man to have won it twice is the ‘Big Easy’, Ernie Els who is in the field once again this year. Els has not had a win since the 2008 Honda Classic, but there were signs towards the end of last year that he has not lost his great ability and could well surprise a few this week. He is a 25/1 shot to win with Ladbrokes.
The European challenge looks likely to be led by Luke Donald and Justin Rose, who both need good season’s this year if they are to re-establish themselves as top ten players. They also have the Ryder Cup to think about at the end of the year. Donald has dropped to 31 in the world rankings, while Rose, who was a top ten player a year ago; is now down to number 70. Donald is a very good each way bet we think for this and at 50/1 with Boylesports he could well show golf punters a great return for their money.
