Dane Anders Hansen will bid to repeat his success of 2009 at the fourth Joburg Open this week in South Africa, by winning the tournament again. The player who has moved up in the world rankings to number 39 and is an outside bet to make the 2010 Ryder Cup team, ended 2009 off in fine style with third place finishes in both the S African Open and the Alfred Dunhill Championships in December. He is the Bookmakers second favourite to win this first European tour event of the year with odds of 14/1 with Victor Chandler.
Favourite for the event is South African, Charl Schwarzel, winner of the African Open last week. Schwartzel is a 9/1 chance, also with Victor Chandler, but punters should be warned that it is not very often a player starts a new year with back to back wins.

The event has attracted a strong field but the betting is very open with no real player dominating the market. We like the look of a second Dane, Soren Hansen, who is a very consistent player who only missed two cuts in 2009, and had a host of top ten finishes. Others who will be in with strong chances will be Northern Ireland’s, Darren Clarke, who often plays well in early season and has been practicing particularly hard for the event. He is a best price of 25/1 with Ladbrokes, while Richard Sterne looked in good form last week in the African Open where he finished in a tie for 13th place and has odds of 14/1 with Bet365.
