Golf super-agent Chubby Chandler can lay claim to a number of leading contenders at this week's Open Championship as his International Sports Management company look for another major winner. A player managed by ISM has won three of the last four majors and Sky Bet offer 9/4 that any ISM player wins the Open on Sunday.
Chandler manages the likes of Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Charl Schwartzel and Sky Bet provide a betting market on which ISM player will finish highest at the Open.
Rory McIlroy is an evens favourite after his US Open win last month and there has been plenty of fanfare surrounding his arrival at Royal St George's. The Northern Irishman hasn't played an event since Congressional but is being tipped for greatness by many and he heads the ante-post betting to win the tournament outright as the 22-year-old bids to become the youngest Open winner since 1893.
Lee Westwood is also a long time client of Chandler and the Englishman continues his search for a first major victory. Chandler has said he fancies Westwood to win the Open this year and he certainly arrives in form. The world number two is priced 2/1 to be the top ISM player this week after he finished runner up at St Andrews last year, losing out to fellow ISM player Louis Oosthuizen.
The South African won by seven shots last year to claim his first major and is priced 12/1 to be the best of Chandler's hopefuls this year. Oosthuizen has endured a tough year after a succession of injuries though and he will have to upset the betting on the links again if he is to defend his title.
Fellow South African Charl Schwartzel is also managed by Chandler and he was winner of the US Masters, hence Chandler has managed three of the last four major winners. Schwartzel birdied the final four holes at the Masters to beat fellow ISM player McIlroy, who of course imploded after leading going into the final day.
Schwartzel is 8/1 to be top ISM Player with SkyBet.com again this week, while another man from South Africa, Ernie Els, can be backed at 14/1. Els joined ISM back in 2002 after winning the Open at Muirfield and is the elder statesman of the ISM group as he passes tips to his younger colleagues. However, he has endured a tough year as his putting continues to struggle and he will have to turn things around at Sandwich.
Another veteran of golf and ISM is Darren Clarke, who has been managed by Chandler since 1992. He was the first high profile player with the company and can be backed at 40/1 in the betting to be top ISM player as he looks for a first major title.
Meanwhile, the younger duo of Simon Dyson and Thomas Aiken are each priced 25/1 respectively, with Gregory Bourdy a tempting 50/1 punt. Although most will fancy Rory McIlroy or Lee Westwood to justify short prices as they look to make it four from five in the majors for Chandler.
