Tiger Woods remains the talking player ahead of the final ‘Major’ of the year, the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits. The fourteen time Major winner has been made second favourite ahead of the event with odds of 16/1 available via Paddy Power Bookmakers.
For most plaudits however, these odds seem ludicrous which verge on the scandalous if the form of Woods is seriously considered. He has never been so out of sorts in his life and his shocking performance last week in the Bridgestone Invitational should earn him at the very least a 33/1 quote for this week and not the skinny 16/1 on offer. In fact many punters are taking the 2/1 available from totesport for him to Miss the Cut; on current form this bet is a very tempting proposition!
The USPGA Championship Odds Comparison
Favourite for the event is world number two, Phil Mickelson, who looked at times last week in the Bridgestone absolutely magnificent, however, his magnificence was equalled and bettered by ineptitude off the tee, particularly in the final round, which resulted in him finishing well down the field and seemingly short of confidence. We will be leaving the 12/1 available on him to win well alone this week.

Leading the European challenge this week, in the absence of Lee Westwood, will be world ranked number 8, Rory McIlroy and 2008 PGA Champion, Padraig Harrington. The two Irishmen finished in a tie for 9th place last week and both have featured in several top ten finishes in very recent competitions. McIlroy can be backed at 17/1 and Harrington at 20/1 with paddy Power to win this week.
Hunter Mahan, winner of the ‘Bridgestone’ last week has seen his form improve enormously in his last three events, culminating in his win last week. Before that however, he had missed four straight cuts and was tumbling down the rankings. Although very inconsistent, he has won twice on tour this year and he should not be ignored with odds of 35/1.
Others who come to mind as potential winners this week is Reteif Goosen and Ernie Els. Goosen in particular who led after two rounds last week, lost his way with a poor third round, but he bounced right back on the final day to finish in a tie for third place. Els also showed plenty of quality last week, but a shocking final round left him to finish in a tie for 22nd place. Goosen at 35/1 with Paddy Power looks a very sound Each Way bet to us.
However the man we are tipping to win this week is Jim Furyk, who has been in outstanding form for most of the season and has already won twice. The world number five looked the likely winner last week too until he found the water, but he still finished in a tie for 6th place. He is long overdue a second ‘Major’ title, to add to the US Open he won in 2003 and can be backed to win here at 35/1 also with Paddy Power.com.
