Alex Noren and Henrik Stenson Are Our Best Bets For The Scottish Open

With just one week to go until the 2017 Open Championship, all eyes are on the Scottish Open which gets underway on the Dundonald Links in Ayrshire from Thursday. A stellar cast including Rickie Fowler, Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson are all teeing up for an event that carries a €7m prize purse as it is now part of the Rolex Series...

Tips Henrik Stenson (each way)    Best Bet @ 16 / 1
Alex Noren (each way) @ 16 / 1
Branden Grace (each way) @ 28 / 1
Marc Warren (each way) @ 250 / 1

The Market Leaders

The Dundonald Links is hosting the men's Scottish Open for the very first time after previously hosting the 2015 and 2016 editions of the ladies' tournament. It is a 7,100 yard, par-72 course and it offers a perfect opportunity for players to find their feet on a quality links track ahead of next week's Open at Royal Birkdale.

Since the Scottish Open was first scheduled to take place one week before The Open in 1987, only Phil Mickelson has managed to win the Scottish tournament and the major back-to-back after he achieved the feat in 2013.

The 2015 Scottish Open winner, Rickie Fowler, will hope to go back-to-back as he bids to shake the tag of being the 'best golfer on tour yet to win a major'. The American is plenty short enough as an 8/1 favourite (Ladbrokes) this week though and we fancy this will be more of a chance for him to shake off the cobwebs rather than going all out for glory.

The same might be said of McIlroy, who missed the cut at the Irish Open last week, and the 10/1 is a touch skinny for a player who hasn't played enough tournament golf this year.

Back The Swedes

We prefer to side with Henrik Stenson at 16/1 though as he has been singing the praises of the Scottish Open after he used it as a springboard to his Open Championship success twelve months ago. The Swede finished in the top-fifteen last year and he has never missed a cut in six appearances in this tournament now (21-14-33-8-3-13).

It has been a mixed bag from Stenson during 2017 but he has five top-ten finishes to his name following a tie for 10th at the BMW International Open last time out and we are happy to back a fine links exponent at 16/1 with Ladbrokes.
Tip #1: Henrik Stenson @ 16/1 with Ladbrokes.com.

Stenson's Swedish compatriot Alex Noren also looks nicely priced at 16/1 as he gears up for his title defence. The 34-year-old, who had previously finished 3rd at the Scottish Open in 2012, was an impressive winner last year and it was one of five titles he landed in the past twelve months.

The world number nine has enjoyed another fine season, winning the BMW PGA Championship and securing five top-fifteen finishes, and he can go close this week.
Tip #2: Alex Noren (each way) @ 16/1 with Ladbrokes.

The Best Of The Rest

Branden Grace makes his first start since the US Open and he is a player we have long admired. Winner of the 2012 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, Grace has secured six top-25 finishes during a 2017 campaign that has seen him mostly compete on the PGA Tour, although it is worth noting that he has finished in the top-fifteen in both of his European Tour outings.

The South African is four from five at the Scottish Open and he was runner-up at Castle Stuart in 2013.
Tip #3: Branden Grace (each way) @ 28/1 with Bet 365.

Finally, Marc Warren has had a year to forget but he is a player who tends to produce his best golf on home soil and the Scot is worth a small-each way wager at 250/1. Warren is a very fine links golfer, who has twice finished in the top-five of the Alfred Dunhill Links, and his record at the Scottish Open reads: 3-38-3-4-62.

With three qualifying spots for The Open Championship up for grabs this week, Warren could yet make the Royal Birkdale field with a big performance in Ayrshire.
Tip #4: Marc Warren (each way) @ 250/1 with B365.
