Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy is just eighteen holes away from being the second youngest player to win the 2011 Masters at Augusta on Sunday following a third round score of 70 which left him four shots clear of his closest rival going into Sunday's final round. McIlroy played very solid golf without the putts dropping in for the majority of Saturday's round, but his patience was rewarded when he birdied both par fives and the tough seventeenth to put some distance between him and his playing partner Jason Day. McIlroy is now odds on to win his first major championship, with Boylesports going 8/13 that the Ulsterman etches his name in history and collects his first Green Jacket on Sunday night.
Day is one of a number of players who start Sunday's round in the chasing pack four shots back on eight under par. The young Australian had led the tournament briefly on Saturday but a mistake at the 16th was compounded by McIlroy's birdie a hole later and he now shares second place with KJ Choi, Angel Cabrera and Charl Scwartzel. Day will be paired with McIlroy in the final group on Sunday, which should help both players having amazingly played together for all four rounds, but he is the least fancied of the four players on -8 to win the tournament with Boylesports, who make him a 16/1 chance.
KJ Choi finished in the top ten here twelve months ago and he is the golfer who has been backed to win his first major as punters look to oppose McIlroy. At 10/1 he is the second favourite with Boyles, four points shorter than Cabrera and Schwartzel who can both be backed at 14/1. Cabrera, or 'The Duck' as he is affectionately known as won this title in 2009 and shot a 67 on Saturday to propel himself into contention. Schwartzel is another who played well on 'moving day' as his third round 67 put himself into joint second place as he bids to be the latest South African major winner.
Luke Donald sits a further shot back on seven under par and he is third favourite to win the Green Jacket with Boylesports. Donald is bidding to be the first player to win the par 3 competition at the start of the week and then follow it up by winning the tournament proper. A third round 69 has put him into contention but the chasing pack know that they're going to have to shoot in the 60's on Sunday to stand a realistic chance of winning the competition and hope that Rory McIlroy falters.
Further down the betting is Tiger Woods at 25/1 and although he's not totally out of it on five under par, you feel that it's in the hands of others however low he shoots on Sunday. Lee Westwood was another of the pre-tournament favourites who faltered on Saturday, slipping to three under par and as a result has been pushed out to 150/1 for his first major.
