The Barclays Singapore Open gets underway at Sentosa Golf Club on Thursday and reigning champion Ian Poulter will be attempting to successfully defend a title for the first time in his career. But it is Poulter's Ryder Cup team mate Martin Kaymer who has been installed as the bookmakers' pre-tournament favourite to win in Singapore, with Boylesports offering odds of 14/1 for the German to win and get his season back on track.
PGA Championship winner Kaymer has not been in the greatest of form since the glorious European Ryder Cup win, blowing the chance to become world number one at Valderrama and performing poorly at the WGC HSBC Champions in Shanghai last week. But he will be hoping to turn that around in Singapore, particularly as he only managed a 30th placed two under par in Shanghai. The eventual winner in Shanghai was Italian Francesco Molinari who produced some excellent golf under pressure from new world number one Lee Westwood to come away 19 under par and with a quite brilliant win.
It was Molinari's first World Championships Golf title, and he is second favourite to follow up last week's win with victory in Singapore. His odds have drifted from 14/1 to 15/1 with Boylesports.com to win the Barclays Singapore Open, which has been a part of the European Tour schedule since 2009 and is co-sanctioned by both the European and Asian tours. The tournament offers a prize purse of $6 million and one man who knows what it takes to win is 2009 champion Ian Poulter.
Poulter claimed the title last season and he was instrumental in Europe's Ryder Cup win, but he has never successfully defended a title and he will have to overcome a strong field if he is to do so in 2010. Poulter's odds of claiming a second consecutive win are currently 16/1 with Boylesports and it is well worth a look as Poulter looks to claim a tenth European Tour title.
Another Ryder Cup star who is likely to be in contention for the $1 million first place prize in Singapore come the final day on Sunday is Graeme McDowell. The US Open Champion recently won the Andalucia Masters in Valderrama and appears to be coming into form at the right time, and he looks particularly good value at shortened odds of 16/1 with Boylesports.
The Barclays Singapore Open will be a highly competitive competition as the Race to Dubai heats up with not many tournaments left to pick up points. While 2005 and 2006 winner Adam Scott is 16/1 to win a tournament again that has treated him so well in the past, and for those who fancy an outside punt then Colin Montgomerie is worth a look. Monty has not played much competitive golf of late, having masterminded the European Ryder Cup glory, and he is currently 200/1 to pull off an unlikely win in Singapore.
14/1 Kaymer
15/1 Molinari
16/1 Mickelson
16/1 Poulter
16/1 McDowell

20/1 Harrington
22/1 Schwartzel
30/1 Karlsson
