The Asian Tour's Singapore Open boasts a strong field this week as 204 players take to the Serapong and Tanjong courses at the Sentosa Golf Club on Thursday. The $6m event is co-sanctioned by the European Tour and Ireland's Graeme McDowell looks good value at industry best priced odds of 18/1 with Boylesports, although Phil Mickelson starts favourite.
Mickelson is priced 16/1 to claim his first tournament title since he won the Houston Open earlier this year. The American is the highest ranked player in the field this week and he has a decent record in Singapore - tied fourteenth in 2009 and third in 2008. However, he hasn't played since finishing tenth at the Tour Championship and with so little golf behind him he looks a tough man to back.
McDowell on the other hand has plenty of golf under his belt of late and his form has been very impressive. The Northern Irishman was third at the HSBC Champions last week, where he was the only player, apart from eventual winner Martin Kaymer, to complete each of his four rounds in the 60s.
His putting was a feature of his play last week, as it was when he was tied third at the Alfred Dunhill recently, and he is finally looking like his old US Open winning self once again. Furthermore, he was tied third in this tournament last year and tied fifth in 2009, with victory this time looking a decent punt.
Also at 18/1 is Anthony Kim, who went close at the Shanghai Masters last time out, although the American has missed three of his past five cuts.
Meanwhile, BMW Championship winner Justin Rose is priced 22/1 by Boylesports.com and he showed glimpses of form when closing the HSBC Champions with a 66 to finish tied for seventh. The Englishman was tied for fourteenth in this tournament two years ago and he looks to have as good a chance as any.
Boyles also go 22/1 on Camilo Villegas's chances and he arrives in excellent form after notching up four top fives in his last five outings, with his worst performance during that run being a tied 25th at the Deutsche Bank.
For a touch more value this week it could be worth a look at Anders Hansen at 33/1 with Boylesports. The Dane was runner-up in this tournament last year as he lost by three shots to Adam Scott, who has opted to play the Australian Golf Open this week. Hansen has two top-fives in Singapore and his recent third at the PGA Championship hints that a tournament win might not be far away.
Ernie Els is another that could offer some value as the South African has a fine record at the Singapore Open - lost in a play-off in 2006, tied third in 2008 and tied fourteenth in 2009. He was tied 33rd at the HSBC last week and fourth at the Frys.com Open before that, which suggests that Els could be ready to finish a disappointing season with a flourish.
