The Race to Dubai continues in earnest this week in the Netherlands for the KLM Open. Another strong field is assembled this week as the tour players look to accumulate precious prize money to get into the end of season Dubai World Championship. Martin Kaymer is amongst three of the world's top players who head the betting at odds of 8/1 with Ladbrokes. The winner of this event twelve months ago, Kaymer has a tougher task this year, with Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy both in this week's field, making up the 8/1 co favourites with Kaymer.
Kaymer finished second last week in Switzerland, behind Thomas Bjorn who shot a fantastic final round of 62. This was a welcome return to form for Kaymer who'd had a quiet time of things this summer despite a great start to 2011. McIlroy finished tied for third at Crans-sur-Sierre on a course he clearly loves. The Northern Irishman has no real course form to speak of here and he may be a touch concerned with the predicted windy conditions given his comments after the Open Championship in July. Lee Westwood completes the trio of market leaders and also enjoyed a good week in the Alps, finishing joint sixth. The trio look plenty short enough this week, with some value picks available elsewhere.
Simon Dyson continues his good form, since winning the Irish Open last month. The Englishman finished in the top twenty last week and has won this event twice before in 2009 and 2006, albeit on a different course. The Yorkshireman is fourth favourite at odds of 25/1 with Ladbrokes. Last week's leader after three rounds Jamie Donaldson is also a 25/1. The Welshman shot a final round of 70 which saw him overtaken by Bjorn and Kaymer to eventually finish tied third with Rory McIlroy.
The Scandanavian duo of Peter Hanson and Anders Hansen can also be backed at 25/1. Hanson finished tied for 25th last week but has had a quiet season, with a tenth place finish in the Scottish Open his highest finish of the last few months. Anders Hansen on the other hand is enjoying a great year. The Dane has been ultra consistent and is ranked sixth in the Race to Dubai, thanks in the main to a third place finish in the US PGA Championship.
Further down the betting, a few former winners catch the eye. Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano was a winner here back in 2004 and finished fourth last year. The Spaniard has only played six times on tour this year due to injury but returned in Switzerland last week with a top twenty finish and enough game to show he could go well here at odds of 33/1 with Ladbrokes.
Another in-form former winner of this event is David Lynn, the beanpole Englishman won on this course in 2004 and was has also finished 9th and tied for 34th on the course he clearly enjoys. Lynn finished tied for fourth place last week in the Alps and is looking to play his way into the top 60 in Europe and ensure his place in the end of season Dubai World Championship. At odds of 66/1 with Ladbrokes he could be well worth an each-way dabble.
