Phil Mickelson leapt to the head of the betting after the first day of the 2010 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational on Thursday. The World number two has the chance to leapfrof Tiger Woods at the head of the rankings with a win in Ohio this week and he sits just two shots behind the leader Bubba Watson on -4 after the first day's play. Mickelson could be backed at 12/1 before the tournament started with bookmaker Bet365 but he is now a 7/2 chance with three more rounds to play.

The pre-tournament 11/2 favourite Tiger Woods has drifted right out to 33/1 after his worst ever round at the Firestone Country Club, carding a four over par total of 74 to leave him ten shots adrift of the lead. There is no halfway cut in this World Golf Championship event so it's not all doom and gloom for the American but it will be a big ask for the World number one to come back from this position, especially as his woes off the tee and on the greens seemingly continue.
Lee Westwood also has a chance to top the world rankings with a win this week and he also carded an over par round, with a +1 total of 71. The score belied the quality of his golf however and at 25/1 the Englishman is not out of it with three days to go.

The big market movers on day one were first round leader Bubba Watson, who shot a -6 under total of 64 to lead the tournament by two shots. This was Watson's first ever round in this event and the big hitting left-hander is now a 12/1 chance from 100's with Bet 365. US Open Champion Graeme McDowell continued his good form in the US as he carded a -4 first round, the best score of the afternoon starters who seemed to get the worst of the conditions. McDowell is now 11/1 second favourite, whilst fellow Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy was also clipped in to 14/1 after a -2 first round on Thursday morning.
Adam Scott fires an impressive 66 on Thursday afternoon which has catapulted him towards the head of the betting and can now be backed at 12/1. The Australian is returning to form after a couple of years in the doldrums, although it's still questionable as to to whether he can keep up this kind of form for three more rounds. Bet365 make Retief Goosen their next in the betting at 16/1, after the South African carded a -3 67 on Thursday afternoon.
Padraig Harrington lost out here dramatically last year after scoring an 8 on the 16th to end up scuppering his chances. The Irishman is returning to form and an eventful -1 total of 69 yesterday means he is a best priced 22/1 to win the tournament with Bet365. A £10 bet on Harrington will win you a cool £230!
