It’s a welcome back to tournament golf to new US Open Champion, Graeme McDowell, who after his incredible victory at Pebble Beach, returns to the UK to take on the challenge of the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond. Having won his last two tournaments - his US Open victory came just a week after he won the Welsh Open at Celtic Manor - McDowell has been installed amongst the favourites to win with odds of 20/1 with Ladbrokes which we think are terrific, particularly as he loves this course and was the winner here too in 2008.

Favourite to win however is World Number 2, Phil Mickelson, who uses this event to warm up for the Open Championship that begins next week. Mickelson is another who loves this course, he finished runner up in 2007, after losing in a play-off to none other than Frenchman, Gregory Havret, who himself was runner up to McDowell at the US Open. Mickelson has been very popular in the betting and is as short as 8/1 with the Magic Sign.

Defending champion, Martin Kaymer has been made third favourite to win with odds of 16/1. The German number one has been showing good form lately, as his tied 6th in the French Open illustrated last week. He is clearly in with a big chance this week, but he might be best to back on an each way basis. The same argument can be applied to Havret in fact, who has been given the rather insulting but nonetheless outstanding betting odds of 80/1 with Ladbrokes.
Winner here in both 2000 and 2003, Ernie Els is another who comes to Loch Lomond with a great chance to win. The ‘Big Easy’ has already won twice this year and his third place behind McDowell and Havret in the US Open speaks volumes for the form he is currently in; Els is an excellent bet we think at 14/1.

Others well worthy of consideration are 40/1 shot, Miguel Angel Jiminez, also a two time winner this year including victory in the French Open last week. Ross Fisher, who so much was expected from in 2010 is still yet to get his year started. He has missed the cut in three of his last four events, but in between he managed second place in the BMW International in Germany. Fisher is too good of a player to be ignored and we think represents excellent each way opportunities with odds of 25/1 from Ladbrokes Online.
