The Head Of The Market
It is a format that two-time winner Dustin Johnson knows well as he won the title here in 2009 and 2010, and he has racked up four top-five finishes since then to move to second in the all-time money earnings list. The world number one makes his first start on the PGA Tour since winning the Sentry Tournament of Champions last month, although he has secured a top-ten in Dubai in the meantime, and he is 13/2 favourite this week.
Johnson is joined by a stellar cast, including Jon Rahm (11/1), who tied 5th here last year, Rory McIlroy (11/1), who makes his first start at Pebble Beach after finishing 3rd and 2nd in his past two starts worldwide, while Farmers Insurance winner Jason Day (11/1) is looking to build on a decent haul of four top-six finishes from eight appearances at Pebble Beach.
It is the defending champion who takes our fancy though as Jordan Spieth looks slightly over-priced at 12/1 and repeat winners are not uncommon as the Open champion is bidding to become the seventh player to win Pebble Beach back-to-back. He has finished no worse than tied 22nd (on debut) in five appearances in this event, while it would be dangerous to read too much into his first missed cut in eight months in Phoenix, where he never tends to enjoy playing.
Pebble Beach is a different matter all together and Spieth is primed to shine again.
Tip #1: Jordan Spieth (each way) @ 12/1 with Betway - 1/4 odds on 5 places.
The Best Of The Rest
Phil Mickelson is another with a fine course record as he has won this title four times in 21 visits, while he was runner-up as recently as 2016. 'Lefty' is still searching for his first win since the 2013 Open but he warmed up nicely for this trip to California with a tie for 5th in Phoenix on Sunday.
Tip #2: Phil Mickelson (each way) @ 33/1 with Betfred - 1/5 odds on 6 places.
Brandt Snedeker also loves playing Pebble Beach as he has two wins and a tie for 4th to show from his past five visits, while he also finished in the top-ten when the US Open was held here in 2010. He always loves playing on coastal courses and it augurs well that he is showing signs of finding form following his return from injury, with a tie for 23rd in Phoenix very much a step in the right direction.
Tip #3: Brandt Snedeker (each way) @ 40/1 with Unibet - 1/5 odds on 6 places.
Finally, Pat Perez lies 4th in the FedEx Cup points rankings currently and the CIMB Classic winner is looking for a fourth victory on the PGA Tour. A former runner-up at Pebble Beach, Perez has secured three top-fifteen finishes in his past four appearances in this event and he opened 2018 with a tie for 4th at the Tournament of Champions before picking up successive top-30s.
Tip #4: Pat Perez (each way) @ 40/1 with Unibet.
