All eyes will be on Tiger Woods this week at CordeVille in California for the Frys.com Open on the PGA Tour. Woods who has barely played this year agreed to turn out in this Fall Series event when Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples asked him to get some match-time in. In a week where Woods fell out of the world's top 50 for the first time in fifteen years, the bookmakers seem to be very scared of a potential backlash, with Betfred making Woods as short as 7/1 to win on his first appearance since the US PGA Championship.
Tiger has finished in the top ten of only one tournament this season in his seven events played and that was in the Masters back in the Spring where he finished tied for fourth. The former world number one lines up with new caddie Joe LaCava in his first appearance since missing the cut in the PGA Championship. Tiger is now winless for two seasons and the price looks incredibly short for this tournament and it would be a huge leap of faith to back him at that price.
It isn't the strongest of fields in California this week but Tiger Woods' involvement means that Betfred have gone 22/1 bar the second favourite, in a very disjointed betting market. American Spencer Levin is the second favourite who is playing close to home this week. The fiery Californian finished tied for fifth last week in Las Vegas, his fifth top ten of what is his best season to date.
Paul Casey is having a wretched time of things in 2011, despite winning the Volvo Golf Champions at the beginning of the season in Bahrain. The Englishman has really struggled with his game since, finishing in the top 25 only three times in thirteen attempts on the PGA Tour with his best finish a tied twelfth in the Northern Trust Open. It really would be aleap of faith to back Casey at 25/1 with Betfred.
Kevin Na is also a 25/1 shot this week but after waiting for years for his first win on tour last Sunday, the likelihood of him backing that up with another victory so soon are very slim. 28/1 chance Louis Oosthiuzen showed some form finishing tied for fifth at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship last weekend whilst compatriot Ernie Els is a 30/1 chance but continues to struggle with the flat stick.
Further down the betting at big prices are two former winners of this event, Troy Matteson and Cameron Beckman. Neither player is lighting up the PGA Tour this season but lightning does have a habit of striking twice and both at odds of 200/1 with Bet Fred they could be worth a sneaky each-way bet this week.
