Straight from his success in the Madrid Masters last week, Englishman, Luke Donald will now take on the challenge of winning back to back tournaments by taking the Welsh Open at the 2010 Course at Celtic Manor this week. Donald has been made 12/1 favourite with VC Bet while Francesco Molinari and Martin Kaymer are next best at 16/1 with the same Bookmakers.
Celtic manor Welsh Open LIVE on Sky Sports 3 from Thursday until Sunday
The par 71 course which will be used for the 2010 Ryder Cup later this year is a seriously tough test which demands accuracy off the both the tee and the fairways. Water hazards are in place on half of the holes encouraging great reward provided enough courage is shown when taking on the flags. The 14th, 15th and 18th are particularly difficult.
Welsh Open Golf Odds Comparison.
The following is a list of fancied players or those with genuine claims this week.
Luke Donald
Favourite and winner last week of the Madrid Masters, after finishing tied for second place in the BMW PGA the week before, Donald comes to Wales in great form. His recent run of results has seen him promoted in the World rankings to number 9, making him the 4th Englishman in the World’s top ten. He has the perfect game for Celtic Manor, a course which demands accuracy off the tee and good course management throughout the 18 holes. Donald is currently the 12/1 favourite to win.
Francesco Molinari
Third place last week in Madrid, the younger of the two Molinari brothers seems to be in great form and comes to Wales in confident mood. He has missed only one cut all year so far, but doubts about his ability to convert good finishes into winning ones remain and he might be a better each way betting option rather than a straight win. Despite a number of top ten finishes he has only one European tour victory which came back in 2006 when he won the Italian Open. Molinari is ranked 37 in the world and is a 16/1 shot with vc bet to win this week.
Martin Kaymer
World ranked number 12, this young German has been having a lean time of it just lately, having missed four cuts in his last seven tournaments. That said there is no doubting his ability, he has five European tour wins to his name, including this year’s Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. He was down the field last week in Madrid, but did show signs of some recovery meaning he should not be ignored in the betting at 16/1.
Graeme McDowell
Although no wins on tour since he won the Scottish Open in 2008, Graeme McDowell from Northern Ireland, will be on most punter’s shortlist as a potential winner this week. He has played consistently well over the last couple of months without winning, but showed that he has the game to win in Wales after finishing 4th behind Donald in Madrid last week. At 22/1 McDowell looks an excellent each way option.
Rhys Davies
There would be few more popular winners this week than 25 year old Welshman, Rhys Davies, who comes into the tournament on the back of an outstanding second place behind Luke Donald in Madrid last week. That performance which has come on top of a win in the Hassan Trophy and a tied second place in the China Open has hoisted him up to number 55 in the world, confirming that he is heading in the right direction. Davies can be backed at 25/1 with Victor Chandler
