Celtic welcome Atletico Madrid to Celtic Park for their crucial Europa League Group I clash on Wednesday evening. The Spanish side arrive in Scotland as 11/10 favourites in the betting with Ladbrokes, while Celtic are priced 12/5, although we like the look of a draw at 12/5.
There is all to play for in the match as Atletico are currently joint top of Group I, with Udinese, and they know victory will secure their place in the knockout stages. Celtic though are just two points behind the group leaders and they cannot afford to lose, with manager Neil Lennon stating that his side will be going all out to win.
The Scottish side have been in excellent form of late as they are unbeaten in ten matches and have won five in a row. They have turned their fortunes around impressively as they are now second in the SPL and are putting some pressure on Rangers at the top.
A 5-0 win over St Mirren at the weekend ensured they continue to excel and Gary Hooper helped himself to a hat trick to take his tally to six goals in his last five matches, with Ladbrokes pricing him 5/1 in the betting to score first on Wednesday.
Celtic are now unbeaten in their last eight matches at home and they could be boosted by the return of Scott Brown from injury this week, although Badr El-Kaddouri is cup tied and Thomas Rogne is ineligible.
It could be an entertaining affair at Celtic Park as the four of the home side's last five matches have involved over 2.5 goals. Meanwhile, all of Atletico's last six games have involved over 2.5 and their last five have witnessed 24 goals, with over 2.5 goals available at a decent 5/6 with Ladbrokes.com.
Atletico's goal threat could be further boosted by the return of Radamel Falcao from injury. Falcao has scored eleven goals this season but has been absent for the past couple of weeks and he will be keen to return to extend his record of being the top scorer in the Europa League since its inception in 2009. Falcao is the 4/1 favourite to score first if he can prove his fitness.
The concern for Atletico is the fact that they have failed to win in their last eight away matches and they arrive on the back of a thumping 4-1 defeat to bitter rivals Real Madrid in La Liga on Saturday. They are now tenth in the Spanish League and they have a series of injuries to cope with this week.
Tiago, Salvio and Antonio Lopez are all out for the trip to Scotland, although Madrid will be confident as they are unbeaten in five matches against Celtic. We fancy they look good value to come away with a draw and Ladbrokes offer 7/2 for the match to finish as a score draw.
