Newcastle head to Stoke on Monday night in the live Premier League kick-off as both sides put unbeaten records on the line. Newcastle are unbeaten in the league this season and are 5/2 to win the match at the Britannia Stadium, while Stoke are unbeaten at home and can be backed at industry best priced odds of 6/5 to win with William Hill.
Stoke's fine record at home has been based on a sound defensive platform as they have kept clean sheets against Liverpool and Chelsea, and drew with Manchester United at home. During their four matches at the Britannia they have conceded just one goal and it could be worth a look at them keeping it tight against Newcastle.
The Stoke clean sheet can be backed at odds of 23/20, while the Stoke win to nil is a 21/10 punt, which is worth considering as the Potters have conceded just five goals in their last ten home matches in the league.
However, scoring goals has been more of a problem as they have managed just 22 shots on goal during the season so far - the lowest in the division. Hills go 4/7 on that Monday's match involves under 2.5 goals, with all of Stoke's home matches going under 2.5 so far this term.
Peter Crouch has managed to score three goals in his last six games and he is available at 6/1 to score first on Monday night, with Stoke no doubt offering plenty of aerial threat.
Of more interest though is the enhanced odds WilliamHill.com offer as they are offering 6/1 for the first goal of Monday's match to be a header by either a Stoke or Newcastle player. That is well worth a look as Stoke are renowned for their direct style of play and have scored 71% of their goals from set pieces this season - the most in the league.
Newcastle themselves have plenty of height and physicality in their side and Demba Ba continues to be a revelation up front. Ba has now scored eight goals in his last nine Premier League starts, with Hills going 13/2 for him to score first at the Britannia.
However, Newcastle must do without Mike Williamson and Shola Ameobi, while Cheik Tiote is a doubt. Steven Taylor should be fit though as Newcastle bid to extend their remarkable twelve match unbeaten run in the league.
Alan Pardew has done a fine job to guide Newcastle up the table but we fancy that run could come to an end on Monday. Newcastle have failed to beat Stoke in four Stoke v Newcastle Premier League encounters and Stoke won this corresponding fixture 4-0 back in March.
Admittedly this is a very different Newcastle side and Stoke are without Mamady Sidibe, while Ricardo Fuller, Jermaine Pennant and Danny Higginbotham are doubts, but we fancy Stoke to continue their fine home record and the correct score of 1-0 looks tempting at 11/2.
